Day 5
I Thes. 5:14-23
As Christians, we should strive to be patient. To be patient means to be "Long-hearted". We are being reminded that not every Christian matures at the same rate. We are to exercise extreme patience with those in the church so that we do not allow the little problems that are bound to arise throw us off course, or bring discord into the fellowship. We are to walk in patience with our fellow believers! We must never be guilty of giving up on each other! How is patience even remotely possible? The answer lies in verse 15. If we obey verse 15 we will have no problem living out verse 14. What command does verse 15 bring? There should be forgiveness toward all men. There are no caveats. Regardless of what someone may do to you, say about you or act toward you, your response is always to be one of forgiveness. We are never to render evil for evil. If someone needs to be taken down a notch or two, that isn't your place, it is the Lord's, Rom. 12:19.

Day 4 I Thes. 5:14-23 We must ‘support the weak’. It is speaking about those who allow the least little thing to make them mad, or cause them to quit. When we deal with this type of follower of Christ, we must be quick to encourage them and to point them back to the right Way. Our job is to help strengthen their faith! The word "support" literally means to hold onto, undergird or to cleave to. Paul is telling us not to let them fall! Look into your life and see if there are areas where you are immature as a Christian, ask the Lord to help you become more mature. With maturity comes opportunities to help support others. Who is depending upon you for spiritual support?

Day 3 1 Thes. 5:14-23 Verse 14 also reminds us to ‘comfort the feebleminded’. This expression has nothing to do with some mental problem. It refers to those who are weak in the faith. Those who seem to be blown off course by everything that comes along. These are the potential quitters in the family of God. It seems that everything that comes along causes them to fall by the wayside. They are always looking on the down side of life and as a result, they are easily influenced to give in and to give up. Our duty as family members is to encourage these followers to be strong in the Lord. We need to encourage one another to learn to look to Jesus rather than circumstances. Read Hebrews 12:2.

Day 2 1 Thes. 5:14-23 Verse 14 tells us that as growing Christians, we should ‘warn the unruly’. This refers to those who are "out of their rank." These Christians are those who refuse to march in line with the Lord. There must be rules, and there are. The Bible is not a self-help book. It is our rulebook! Our duty as Christians is to help those who have trouble marching according to the Lord's drumbeat. We then, must also be very diligent in making sure we are walking in step with Jesus. When we see a brother or sister walking out of formation (disobediently), we are to love him and do our best to warn him and to help him return to a place of honoring God with his/her life, Rom. 15:1; Gal. 6:2. How are you lovingly and truthfully discipling others? Have you been open to discipling? Do you place yourself under spiritual authority in order to hear from Christ what you may not otherwise hear?

Day 1 1 Thes. 5:14-23 When we read verse 20 we find that there should be an openness to the word of God. Look at the word ‘Despise’. It means "To make of no account." What Paul is referring to is those people who are guilty of hearing the Word of God preached in power and truth and then simply ignore the message. This makes it of no effect in their lives. God's Word is not a buffet! We are not permitted to take what we wish and leave the rest. We are challenged in the Bible to do more than simply hear the Word, James 1:22. Never be guilty of picking and choosing only that which you want from the Word! Our lives should reflect continual obedience to God Truth. Which means a person growing in their faith is constantly changing to look more like Jesus and care more deeply about His Will.

Day 5 Isaiah 9:6 God has entered into a permanent covenant relationship with us. There is no “till death do us part”. Ezekiel 37:26-27 “I will make a covenant of peace with them. It shall be an everlasting covenant with them. And I will set them in their land and multiply them, and will set my sanctuary in their midst forevermore. My dwelling place shall be with them, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.” His relationship with us is forever, which means His salvation for us is also everlasting. God came to earth to establish and develop a permanent relationship with us. That relationship can only be established once we have been delivered from sin. So then, when Jesus saves us, He saves us forever. Isaiah 45:17; 60:20 “But Israel is saved by the Lord with everlasting salvation…” “…for the Lord will be your everlasting light...”. John 6:47 “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes has eternal life.” Are you sharing your everlasting life and everlasting relationship with those who have not received it yet? Is your everlasting life alive?

Day 4 Isaiah 9:6 What kind of relationship does this Everlasting Father, namely Jesus, have with us? His love toward us is everlasting. Jesus will never stop loving us. He can not and will not love us any more or less than He already does right now. Isaiah 54:8 “’…with everlasting love I will have compassion on you,’ says the Lord, your Redeemer.” Jeremiah 31:3 “I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore I have continued my faithfulness to you.” How does it make you feel to know that Jesus loves you regardless, and forever? Some use His love as permission to sin and fail. However, it should place us on our knees in surrender.

Day 3 Isaiah 9:6 Jesus, as our Savior, has a permanent relationship with us. He is called our Father because He created us and has possession of us. This verse is not saying He is THE Father, but our Father (in terms of the new birth). He is Everlasting, which means ‘perpetual, eternal, forever, without end.’ We have discovered that Jesus Christ is eternal, without beginning/end. But we also discover that His relationship with us is eternal as well. This Messiah came to earth to establish an eternal, permanent relationship with us! Most of us have had friendships that were meaningful. However, sometimes as life changes and moves, we fall away from those relationships. We drift apart. We miss them but have no control over them any longer…we just grow apart. The great thing about Jesus, our Messiah, our Everlasting Father, is that He never outgrows us or loses interest in us. He never drifts apart or loses touch with us. He’s always there. He is the same yesterday, today and forever! Because He’s our Everlasting Father, His relationship with us is permanent.

Day 2 Isaiah 9:6 Notice His own words in Jeremiah 31:9, speaking of the still-future time when Israel will repent: "They shall come with weeping, and with supplications I will lead them. I will cause them to walk by the rivers of waters, in a straight way in which they shall not stumble; for I am a Father to Israel, and Ephraim is My firstborn." This shows that He will be their Father when He returns to this earth to set up His world-ruling government, and this special relationship to Israel will last throughout all eternity. He is indeed "the Everlasting Father"! He was their Father, He is their Father, and He will be their Father…because He is everlasting.

Day 1 Isaiah 9:6 This is undoubtedly a prophecy of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. He is the promised Son of God, who fulfills all these titles and offices. Among these is the name and title "Everlasting Father". How could Christ, the Son of God, be called the "Everlasting Father"? Did He not say He came to reveal the Father (Luke 10:22; John 1:18)? Many scriptures establish that Jesus Christ created all things; John 1:3; Colossians 1:16; Hebrews 2:10. The one called Yahweh is also our Savior and King, Jesus Christ! Notice Deuteronomy 32:6: "Do you thus repay the Lord, you foolish and senseless people? Is not He your Father, who created you, who made you and established you?” The God of the Old Testament fulfilled many roles toward Israel, and one of them is as their Father. He claims Fatherhood under three bases: First, He redeemed them from slavery in Egypt. Two, He created them. And three, He founded them as a nation. He has every right to the title! Does He fulfill the Father role for you? He has redeemed you from sin. He has created and sustains you. He establishes us in His Kingdom. He has every right to the title?

Day 5 Isaiah 9:6 Jesus is also self-sufficiently strong. Just look at the resurrection. It is one thing to raise someone from the dead. It is quite another to raise yourself from the dead! Self-sufficient strength does not hope for enough of anything in order to satisfy itself. Jesus does not need a battery charger or vitamins in order to stay strong. Jesus does not/can not ‘run-down’. Jesus doesn’t need outside help or any resource to remain strong. He doesn’t need spiritual vitamins or iron shots. Jesus had been designated and promised from all eternity (even before the world began) to be the Savior and was finally born to accomplish His saving task; but He was not born Mighty! He was ALWAYS mighty, and proved in His earthly task, to be MIGHTY to save. Don’t forget, whatever your need or weakness is today - Jesus is Mighty!!! Look to Him!

Day 4 Isaiah 9:6 “But God” (two beautiful words throughout the Bible: “but God”) throughout Scripture implies ‘unchangeable’ and ‘consistent’. Only God (Jesus the Messiah) is unchangeable. So when we hear that Jesus is Mighty…He is ALWAYS Mighty…He is ALWAYS God. Hebrews 13:8: “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” He does not learn, grow old with age or weary in battle. He does not grow slow of mind or slow of strength. God does not look forward to retirement. He does not wonder if Social Security will still be there tomorrow or next year. (Tuit) Jesus is always and consistently powerful and strong. We cannot occupy that position of ‘might’, unfortunately, we sometimes think we are ‘able’. HE (and He alone) IS ABLE!!! He doesn’t change but He offers us that ability. He offers change for us in His birth, life, death, resurrection and His Spirit. He offers renewed strength and renewed life to us from His inexhaustible and unchangeable strength as the Mighty God. Tell someone about this today!

Day 3 Isaiah 9:6 To state that “Jesus is God” explains Jesus exalted position but describing Him as “mighty” helps us to understand the character of His God-head. We don’t use the word “mighty” too often, but its Biblical use would include the words “powerful” and “strong”. We use the word “powerful” to include armies and aromas, speech, strength, men, motors and much more. The word for “mighty” means “strong” or “strength”, but ‘mighty’ is the intensive form of the word so Jesus is stronger or mightier than all the rest. In fact, when compared to anything else, Jesus is Mighty. When anything is compared to Jesus, it cannot be described using ‘mighty’. So when you think your problem is ‘mighty’…it may be, until you see Jesus. Once Jesus is involved (and He always is) everything else must bow!!!

Day 2 Isaiah 9:6 Philippians 2:6-7 says: “He (Jesus) existed in the form of God, and did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men.” Jesus is co-equal and co-eternal with the Father; very God of very God, who counted it not robbery to be equal with God. Jesus does not diminish God the Father in any way. Jesus does not detract from the Father because He “and the Father are one." (John 10:30). “I tell you the truth,’ Jesus answered, ‘before Abraham was born, I am! This is the same name that God revealed to Moses.” (John 8:58). “The Father is in Me, and I in the Father.” (John 10:38). “If you really knew me, you would know my Father as well. From now on, you do know Him and have seen Him… Anyone who has seen Me has seen the Father.” (John 14:7 & 9). Jesus mentions His relationship with His Father over 100 times in the book of John. Jesus is God!!! And He has all the Strength of the Father. When you are dealing with darkness in your life, you may only see Him as a child in a manger…but do not forget…He is also THE MIGHTY GOD. He is able to save. To save not only the soul but the day!!!

Day 1 Isaiah 9:6 The name here used for God, El, is taken from a Hebrew root. It signifies strength; and perhaps a literal translation of that title might be, "The Strong One," the strong God. When comparing strength between entities, none else can be called strong except God. There is added to this an adjective in the Hebrew, expressing mightiness, and the two taken together express the omnipotent (all-powerful) of Jesus. Jesus IS all-powerful. This is not up for discernment or debate. What is called into question is, what YOU call Him. It does not say that Christ shall be "the mighty God," but it says, "He shall be CALLED Wonderful," CALLED "Counselor," CALLED, "The mighty God." When you make decisions concerning your life, do you call Him Wonderful Counselor? When you are in need of power in your life, do you call Him the ALMIGHTY GOD?
