Day 4 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 2 Timothy 4:7 Could Paul just have gotten up one day and become an Apostle; with no discipleship or mentoring or focusing on Christ? Could a person who wants to be a runner just decide to enter the Olympics without ever running before? Have you ever seen a world-class sports competitor, or a concert musician just wake up one day and perform without any prior practice or learning? Well, most anyone can enter a race, play ball or pick up a violin. They may know the rudimentary aspects of it, but can they play with passion and with any degree of expertise? Obviously, the answer is, no. It is the same with our faith. We have it when we receive Christ; we have His Word and countless resources, helps, and experienced people who have gone before us. We will instantly know a lot, but we are limited in what we really can do, and our full capacity and capability are lurking beneath, waiting on us to learn and exercise our faith so we can be built up. Knowing our Lord and His precepts is also a process that we do not attain overnight. Just like learning or studying any subject, it takes time. If you try getting a good grade in class without studying the subject, without attending class, without taking notes, without doing your homework, and/or without reading the textbook, how well will you do in that class? What if you do some of the requirements, say you attend the class but do not take no notes nor read the textbook; how well will you do? Even if you are very smart? Let's say you do everything well; attend all the classes, take careful notes, do your homework, but never bother opening the textbook; how well will you do then? This is how most Christians live their Christian walk. Either they ignore all the "work," do just a couple of things, or maybe do it all, but never read the Bible, how good will they be as a disciple? Are you a disciple? Are you growing to be more like Jesus? Are those around you becoming more like Jesus as a result of your Christian discipline? #247daily

Day 3 Jesus said, "For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it? . . . So likewise, whoever of you does not forsake all that he has cannot be My disciple" (Luke 14:28, 33). You must count the cost to follow Jesus. Yes, it costs to follow Jesus. But it will cost more not to follow Him. What does it cost you to follow Jesus? What have you forfeited, given up, walked away from? It seems the longer we follow Him the more aware we are of worldly weights. Jesus calls us to make disciples. What would it look like if every believer was a replication of your discipleship? Jesus called us to go and make disciples (see Matthew 28:19). But it takes one to make one. #247daily

Day 2 Jesus said, "And whoever does not bear his cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple" (Luke 14:27). If you want to live life to its fullest, then you must deny yourself and put Christ first. You take your goals, desires, dreams, and aspirations, and you present them to God. While they rest in your hands they will lead to selfishness. When you give to God and follow His heart in you, it will lead to selflessness and His further glory. Ultimately, you will discover that God's plans for you are always the best; for you and for His glory! What are you still holding on to that would be better in His hands? #247daily

Day 1 So likewise, whoever of you does not forsake all that he has cannot be My disciple." Luke 14:33 Are you a disciple? Just because you are a Christian doesn't necessarily mean that you are a disciple. Every disciple is a believer, but not every believer is a disciple. Jesus gave us the definition of a disciple in Luke 14. He said that if we do not do these things, we cannot be His disciples. Jesus said, "If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple" (verse 26). A statement like that is shocking, but let's understand what Jesus was saying. He obviously was not telling us to hate in the traditional sense. Rather, Jesus was saying that your love for God should be so strong, so intense, that all other loves would be like hatred in comparison. For what cause do you live? #247daily

Day 5 – Matthew 2:1-15 But what if Herod had asked them, "Who?" The Scribes and Wise Men might have read on in Micah 5: 2, 4 "His goings forth are from long ago, from the days of eternity. . ." "And He will arise and shepherd His flock in the strength of the LORD, in the majesty of the name of the LORD His God. And they will remain, because at that time He will be great to the ends of the earth." So, this King is not just coming into being in the womb of his mother Mary. "His goings forth are from long ago, from the days of eternity." Or, as John's Gospel says, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God" (John 1:1). And this King would not be limited in His realm to Israel. "He will be great to the ends of the earth." Christmas is not about a baby! It is about God becoming flesh and becoming our Kinsmen Redeemer, just like He said He would do! Don’t get all wrapped up in swaddling clothes, that you miss the God wrapped up inside of them! #247daily

Day 4 – Matthew 2:1-15 Your level of joy at Christmas is directly related to what you give. The magi came to Jesus' house bearing gifts. The gifts they gave were entirely appropriate. They gave gold, a gift for a king. By giving it they acknowledged that Jesus was and is the King. They gave frankincense, a gift for a priest. This was incense the priests used in Temple prayers. By giving it, they acknowledged that Jesus was a priest - the One who would bring us to God. They also gave myrrh, a gift for the dead. This was a fragrant ointment used to anoint a body before burial. By giving it, they acknowledged that Jesus had come to die for the sins of the world. We ought to give appropriate gifts this Christmas as well; not material gifts, more important things. We ought to give the gift of our love and kindness to our friends, family and strangers. We ought to give the gift of our help to those who are hurting. We ought to give the gift of forgiveness to those who have hurt us. Giving these kinds of gifts will result in a joyous and meaningful Christmas. What are you giving for Christmas this year? Why not consider giving yourself? Give your time to your family and your church family. Give your compassion to the hurting. Give your forgiveness to the betrayers and patience to the betrayed. And give your heart to Jesus? When you look for the right thing, look in the right places and give the right gift, you will have joy at Christmas. #247daily
