Day 1, Mark 11:1-11

Blaine Rogers @ First Free Will Baptist Church, Russellville, AR
Mark 11:1-11
Day 1

Mark is but one detailed account of this event. We have 3 others that serve to complete the story. From Mark, we might think this is Jesus’ first trip to Jerusalem but this is only because he has been silent about the other trips. Jews like Jesus would attend each feast day to celebrate milestones in the life of Israel. However, Mark doesn’t give us that information because it would not be important to his Gentile reader. But this event is worth telling, not only to Jews but the whole world. There is a definite change of pace that begins at this event. When Jesus is still on the outskirts of town, He sends two of His disciples to finalize arrangements for His entry into this next chapter.

Can you imagine…arguing over who is or who would be greatest in the Kingdom of Christ, then being asked to go pick up a young donkey. Seems pretty insignificant, doesn’t it? However, this animal will fulfill prophecy. It is necessary! Many things that we do or are asked to do in His Kingdom might seem to be insignificant. However, everything related to His Kingdom matters and is necessary. God does not give busy-work. All His work is significant. You might not know how, but all your Godly work matters. How do you respond to ‘insignificant’ opportunities?
