Second Ripple:

Moderate
The second benefit of water for the body is in keeping our temperature regulated.  Water keeps us from extremes in body temperature.  Not too hot, not too cold.  Let’s make the spiritual application.  The intake of the Word keeps us from extremes in attitude and temper.  Not too hot (sinning with anger), not too cold (apathetic).  Water moderates us.  Being moderate simply means to avoid extremes in behavior.  I Corinthians 9:25 states, “Everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things.”  The Word of God, aptly applied, teaches us to be self-controlled.  Over the next few weeks, we will be studying about self-control.  “So think clearly and exercise self-control. Look forward to the special blessings that will come to you at the return of Jesus Christ.” 1 Peter 1:13.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such there is no law.

So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath;
