I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.
…for without me, you… Please do not miss a very important point Jesus is making here. In brief, Jesus is talking about His grace cooperating with our willingness. We may be willing to do ‘stuff’, but without Him…nothing. He is willing to do ‘stuff’, but without our cooperation there can be no fruit from our lives. Christ can choose to do what He wishes that brings glory to the Father; however, the greatest/fullest glory of the Father comes from our partnership. That partnership must be constant. Think of a branch that falls off the vine. Can it choose to reconnect just whenever it wishes? Of course not! Our abiding partnership must be constant.
