John 15:5
I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.
Without me you can do nothing. This is the ultimate conclusion and application of the whole parable. As long as we are separate from Him, we will bear no fruit that is good and acceptable to God, for we are unable to do anything good. Remember God gets to hold the dictionary. He gets to define what good is. Many people including many Christians have redefined what ‘good’ means and we have softened its power and settled for something far less than what God desires for His people and His creation. We do many ‘good deeds’ but without His power, unfortunately, it lacks sustainability. We then get tired and embittered in trying to do any good. Are there good things you have accomplished that have not lasted? What are a few reasons our good deeds are not sustained.
