Day 5 - Mark 14:10-11 Many times we hear people say, “Well, Judas was just trying to push Jesus into His Kingdom. Causing Him to take the action they expected Him to take.” He was hurrying God along. We try to do that sometimes too. That has never been, nor ever will be, profitable. By the way, this gives Judas a lot of credit he does not deserve. He is a thief too. We do know that Judas worked his way into a place of trust. The other disciples chose him to be the treasurer for the group, but Judas used that position to steal from the bag, John 12:6. That verse tells us that Judas “...bare what was put therein”. The word “bare” means “to take away; to pilfer”. Judas was indeed a thief. This is made crystal clear in the Word of God. He went from friend to thief to traitor. Being a traitor is worse than an enemy because of the element of trust that you had in that person and the deceit involved in being a traitor. Judas could not overcome his betrayal. He took his own life. Peter also betrayed Jesus. However, Peter turned back to Him in repentance. Betrayal comes at the most crucial times of our lives. It comes at the hands of those who are the closest to us. (John 13:18 cf Psalms 41:9, 55:12-14) Peter’s story proves that betrayal does not have to end the relationship. Jesus forgave Peter. He would have forgiven Judas. He will forgive you…Have you asked Him?
